Welcome to Schola Campesina, an international school of agroecology.
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2018 in Gallese, in the Biodistrict della Via Amerina e delle Forre (Viterbo, Italy), Schola Campesina Onlus is an international center for training and participatory research that strengthens agroecological organizations in their struggle for food sovereignty through knowledge sharing, including within global food and agriculture governance processes. We ground our facilitation work in the Nyéléni International Forum for Agroecology (2015) and in the principles of ‘dialogo de saberes’ and popular education.
Schola Campesina’s vision is to rebuild, defend, revitalise, share and pass on peasant farming knowledge across generations. This knowledge is part of the collective heritage of food producers, their communities and allied researchers and academics. In contrast to the agro-industrial model, we support a model rooted in food sovereignty and peasant agroecology — one that seeks to build strong, just and sustainable rural societies based on individual and collective rights, social justice and improved living conditions.
WHO WE DO
Grounded in the principles of the 2015 Nyéléni International Forum for Agroecology, diálogo de saberes and popular education, Schola Campesina facilitates the exchange of peasant, academic and activist knowledge across territories and movements.
Through international trainings, exchanges, research processes and events, Schola Campesina supports producers’ organisations, social movements and agroecological networks.
Schola Campesina fosters the creation and development of agroecological networks and projects. We currently hold the secretariat for the Grassroots Innovation Assembly for Agroecology and the Bilim Alliance on Agroecology in Easter Europe and Central Asia.
